How to fill a Word document without installing Word
- Choose your DOCX. The file opens locally in this browser. Nothing in the document is uploaded.
- Fill or edit the text. Each paragraph and table cell appears as a text block. Search for a question or name, replace blanks with your answers, and fill double-brace placeholders in one step.
- Prepare and download your copy. Save the edited DOCX to your device before closing this tab. Your original file stays unchanged.
- Check the layout. The tool shows text, not Word’s page layout. Review your saved copy in a document viewer before sending it.
Will the original formatting stay?
The editor changes text inside the existing document. It keeps the original tables, images, page settings and styles rather than rebuilding a Word file from a web page. Unchanged text retains its existing run formatting; new text inherits formatting from a nearby run. Longer answers can move lines, stretch table cells or change page breaks.
This is a focused text and form tool. It does not add pages, redesign a document, change fonts or provide a full Word-style visual editor. Paragraphs containing special content, including fields, tracked changes, drawings or locked controls, appear read-only and are preserved.
Can I fill a Word form?
You can type into ordinary text and table cells, edit supported plain-text content controls and toggle supported modern Word checkboxes. Placeholders such as {{Full name}} appear in Quick fill, including placeholders split across formatting runs. Ordinary underscores are editable text: replace them with your answer.
Automatic calculations, legacy form fields, date pickers, dropdown controls, data-bound controls and signature features are not filled here. Documents with enforced editing restrictions are rejected rather than unlocked.
Example: replace a name throughout a Word form
If a template uses {{Full name}} more than once, enter your answer under Quick fill and choose “Fill placeholders.” For example, Full name: {{Full name}} becomes Full name: Alex Example. Matching editable placeholders receive the same answer, even when the placeholder text spans different formatting runs.
A form that uses Name: __________ instead has ordinary text blanks. Find that paragraph or table cell and replace the underscores directly. Prepare your edited DOCX, download it, and check that longer answers still fit the saved layout.
Which Word files work?
Choose an ordinary .docx up to 10 MB, with up to 600 text blocks, 5,000 characters per block and 250,000 characters overall. The expanded document must fit within 40 MB and 500 ZIP entries. Older .doc files, password-protected files, signed documents, macros and ActiveX controls are not supported. Some unusual DOCX variants may need their original application.
Is my Word document private?
Processing happens in your browser tab. The tool does not upload your document, store your answers, create a share link or save a session. Download your work before closing, refreshing or choosing “Close & clear.” External links and document resources are not fetched by this editor.
Is your form a PDF instead?
Use the free PDF form filler for interactive PDF fields or text placed on a flat PDF page. This Word tool exports DOCX, not PDF.
