THE FILE-SIZE FIX

Compress an image to a KB limit

Make a JPEG fit under 100 KB, 200 KB, 500 KB or your own limit. Preview the result and check its dimensions. Your image stays in your browser.

JPEG or PNG · up to 40 MB / 40 MP
At least 64 px on each side. Opens locally.

1 KB = 1,000 bytes. The JPEG must be strictly below your limit. Quality and dimensions may be reduced. Transparent areas become white.

Make an image fit an upload form

  1. Choose your original JPEG or PNG. The file picker opens it on your device; it does not upload it.
  2. Enter the maximum size in KB. Use a preset or a whole number from 10 to 10,000. For a 1 MB limit, enter 1,000 KB.
  3. Compress, inspect and download. Check that small text and important details are still readable. The result shows the measured byte count and pixel dimensions.

Below the limit, not padded to an exact size

A 100 KB target means fewer than 100,000 bytes. A result of 97 KB is a success; adding bytes to make it exactly 100 KB would not improve the image. This tool uses decimal units: 1 KB is 1,000 bytes and 1 MB is 1,000,000 bytes. Some apps display binary units, so their rounded number can look different.

Does the form need one PDF instead of separate images? Use the JPG and PNG to PDF converter to combine photos or scans and check the finished PDF against a size limit.

The tool first tries JPEG quality settings. If it cannot fit at the current dimensions, it reduces the width and height together and tries again. It never stretches, crops or enlarges the source. The output can be smaller in pixels, which matters if a form also requires a minimum width or height.

What changes in the downloaded file?

The download is always a new JPEG. Transparent PNG areas become white. JPEG compression can soften fine text or add artifacts around edges; it is not lossless. The browser re-renders the image, so original metadata is not copied by this tool. Keep your original for editing, printing and archival use.

Inputs are limited to 40 MB, 40 megapixels and 20,000 pixels on a side, with at least 64 pixels on both sides. Animated PNGs are unsupported. Outputs are capped at 20 megapixels and 10,000 pixels on a side to keep processing practical. These caps may reduce a large source even with a generous size limit.

Why is my new JPEG bigger than my small original?

Converting a compact PNG or already optimized JPEG can create a larger file while still meeting your selected limit. The original and output sizes are both shown. If your original already meets the destination’s format and size requirements, you may prefer to use it.

Is this the right tool for printing?

Use this compressor when a file-size limit is the problem. For artwork prints, use the artwork packager and the print-size calculator to check crop shapes and available pixels. A small upload file is not automatically a suitable print master.
